Lab Learning

Working with young children for over two decades and raising my own has given me a tremendous appreciation for the varying styles and rate of growth and learning among us all. While we strive to teach that learning is always positive and often fun, we fail to make that a reality for many children.

My goal is to show children that they all can and should enjoy learning - if not in the classroom, then somewhere else. It may be at the library, the sport's field or in the computer lab, but there is always something to be learned and an adventure in finding it.

While working with various grades in the computer lab, I have tried to find ways where the computer can add to the learning experience. Often times it has been through educational interactive websites targeting specific subjects at the age/grade appropriate level for these students. Finding an activity that corresponds with the teacher's lesson plan and student's needs is a win/win - and that makes my day.

Perhaps as this blog gets off of the ground I may be able to share some with you and you with me. I'd like that.

  1. Cynthia, you rock! You always do an awesome job finding new sites for us all the time. I know that whenever I need to find information on a certain subject I can ask you and you always come up with some great resources. Thanks for all you do for us at Discovery. I can't wait to try out some of these new things with my class in the lab. I REALLY want to try the podcast with voicethread. Do you think we can pull it off? Do we have a micropone that we can use with the kids?

  4. Nice to meet you Cynthia. I used Voicethread with my kids this week - they had a good time doing it. I just had one microphone hooked up to my classroom computer that I had the students take turns recording with.

  5. Thank you Lisa!
Do you recommend a certain kind of microphone with particular features? Any idea of the approximate cost or where to purchase? Are your microphones owned by the school, district, or yourself?
